Known Facts of Harmandir Sahib

So far I was unable to find even a single unknown fact (Among other answers). So I am giving only those which are unknown to ordinary people:

1.The building of Golden Temple is constructed with Nanakshahi Brick, which is 1 inch thick, 3 inch wide & 18 inch long.

Now the speciality of this brick system is even if you manage to take out one brick from wall, other bricks stand unchanged & for removing next bricks you will have to apply same effort unlike modern Modular bricks.

The building of Darbar Sahib (only sanctum sanctorum) is a square shape of 40 ft x 40 ft. There is a 13 ft wide parikrama on all sides of it. Making entire building complex plan built inside sarovar a square of 66 ft x 66 ft.

P.S. - You can see Darbar Sahib from Akal Takht but you cannot see Akal Takht from Darbar Sahib. (Deorhi is constructed in such a way.)

Symbolising Spiritual view is wider than Temporal view.

2. There is an accurate small Sun-Dial on the left side almost midway of the pathway from Darshani Deodhi.

3. The water of the Sarovar (The holy tank) is fed through an underground closed tunnel like canal. It is called Hanslee (also informally Sikhaan Wali Nehar).

4. The Sarovar has been cleaned 11 times since 1573 AD through Kaar Seva.

5. The ground floor of Akaal Takht building is called Kotha Sahib because that is where Guru Arjan Dev ji used to sit while construction work was going on.

6. Strangely Kotha Sahib is facing Golden Temple building but all the above stories above it are tilted axially towards east side. Symbolising that the throne of temporal power (Akaal Takht) can not face The Temple of God (Hari Mandir). This is a uniques concept in entire world.

7. Jaikara of 'Bole So Nihaal' is never raised inside Golden Temple.

8. From Lohri to Hola Mahalla there is historical rule to sing Basant Raag prominantly inside Golden Temple. Everyday first Hymn is from Basant Raag only during this period.

9. Electricity was installed inside Darbar Sahib in 1930. Earlier the light of lamps (Ghee deepak) was used for

hukamnaama in dark hours.

10. During the first world war, there was continuous series of akhand paath in the first floor of Darbar Sahib building by British Government (Praying for victory).

11. On 5 occasions of Gurpurabs 'Jalau' is organised for 2 hours in the Darbar Sahib. All the four door Kivaarhs are replaced by identical Golden Ones.

12. On the Arches of the first floor of the building of sanctum sanctorum, complete Japuji Sahib, Jaap Sahib & Sukhmani Sahib can be seen engraved.

13. Toshakhana is the place for storing Jalau ornaments. It has four keys. The wonderful thing is even if one has all the four keys one cannot open the Toshakhana lock because they are used in a particular order & every key opens lock only one fourth of a cycle. Unless the four quarters are complete, forget to open the lock.

There are a lot more unique aspects for which a large space is needed.
