This is the best of piece of land of which my dad was so proud of. He shall daily cycle down a distance of about two miles and reach his fields. he will go round his part of land sit near his tube well which was he had located at a higher place so that he can irrigate his field. My father added one more tube well on this side and intended to Power it when the power connection is approved. So for it runs on Diesel. This parcell of land has always given us revenues.

Big planner as my Dad was, he would think meticulously and execute his plans very steadly but smartly and perfectly. some of his plan in the development of our assets are bearing abundant fruits even today. Many trees grown by him are still near the tube-well particularly the tree of 'Suanjana' which has overgrown. Its fruits were great in demand when we made curry and pickle from its flowers. My manager has recently told me to prune the same this year and I have permitted him to do so with the condition that he has to plant another one by it side and can remove it only after the new one has grown up. My dad also purchased adjoining plot in the Village Badbar. He costructed a beautiful brick-concrete house consisting of a small kitchen, a bath and a flush toilet. Often he told that this new room was for my use. at present it is in shambles. We constructed about 8 rooms in the place, some knon people are living there free but they do maintain the upkeep of the house.

The village environment attracted Harvinder more than me. The development of village property and lands is due to her keen interest. she will encourage me to go to Badbar. We all together shall go to village during Christmas hoildays and camped there for 8-10 days. It is here that Shiv came to many new things. He would call 'Khurli' a dining table and 'Chhabba' as the dining plate of animals for eating food. This amused us as well as our cousins living in the village. He came to know how the fire is produced and ignited by burning wooden logs in the open oven, while in city, it was through a cylinder. We shall cook fresh vegetables and enjoy eating with 'Lassi' borrowed from neighbors who will be more than glad to offer. The cooking of 'Sone Halva' a traditional milk cake from Multan was a ritual for us, almost all ingredients for preparing this was a sort of free for us like milk, wheat, labour etc of course sugar had to be added.

Shiv was very happy to see my Dad commanding his affairs very well and will love to go to village shops along with him for his goodies. After the crops were sold, Dad will give money in cash to all of his kids, While the sisters will get Rs 100/- each, Harvinder will get Rs 500/- That was a princely sum. Dad will arrange to send 100 kg each of wheat to all his daughter besides, some rice, grains, and besin etc. I have tried to follow the tradition, presently my second sister Ambu calls my contact in Badbar and orders the annual quota for all the sisters. I have adopted this procedure as I do not like them to ask me for their rights and have given standing instructions to the Manager to send them any thing they order for even if he has to buy the same from open market. They get the best 'Banspati' available in Sangrur. They also proudly and specially cook "from Badbar dishes' for me when ever I am visiting India.

This house was purchased in an open Auction by my Dad Sh Vas Dev Singh from Ministry of Rehabilitation New Delhi on 3rd Oct 1954 for an amount of Rs19505/- ( out of this Rs 3056/- in cash and an adjustment of Rs 9425/ in claims - thus totaling Rs 12481 by Sh Vas Dev Singh and balance of Rs 7024/- in claims adjustment by my uncle Sh Inder Jit Singh). All the properties and cash was common in the family and hence this house became a common property.

This property was duly registered in 1962 accordingly. As the property was obviously to be divided as the families grew more, I got a Job with Government of India in !965 and started staying with my maternal grandmother in I-20 Jangpura extension. My dad requested his brother for permission to build a room on the first floor to accommodate me to which he agreed. We started constructing in 1968-69 and instead made three rooms. My uncle did not like the idea, as we moved from Panipat to Delhi required more space. So it was decided to sub divide the property and in the allocations the ground floor which was preferable in those days but was rented to Telegraph office at an handsome monthly rent of Rs 350/-pm.


So my uncle decided to pay us the the RS 10000/- as cost of my Dad's part of the ground floor construction. He delayed the payment purposely as he told me that will end the income of rent from the ground floor the day Rs 10000/ was transacted in Dad's name. He knew it well that My dad had more liabilities in marrying off my sisters. But a degree from the court was arranged and as desired by us, the Senior sub-judge Sh M K Chawla additional Distt Judge Delhi C.Suit No 203 of 1982 between the brothers made an order as follows:

Order

1 In view of the statement of the counsel for the Plantiff and the defendant,
the suit is decreed to the extent that the plaintiff will be the owner of the
first floor, second floor and thereafter of the premises of A-21 Jangpura
Extension, New Delhi and the defendant shall be the owner of the ground floor of
the said premises.

Hence my uncle Sh Inder Jit Singh was legally owner of this part of this house and he was glad that now he will file a suit against the Telegraph office and use his influence to evacuate the premises belonged to him. He did his best and made appeals to government and to the corporation for getting the property tax separate as per his rights. His sudden death in 1989 put all this in mess. Neither the telegraph office would pay the meager rent of Rs 350/- nor vacate the premises. So since 1989 till this date of writing the blog, not even a penny has been retrieved.

After the death of my Father Sh Vas Dev Singh on Aug 27th, 1997, the rights were got transferred in my name as per the Registered will of my four sisters who very gladly waved their rights in my favor. I have always pondered over this how and when I shall repay them their obligation during my life time .
