Various Dialects of Punjabi language & Maharaja Ranjit Singh

These are different dialects of Punjabi language. The standard Punjabi is Majhi, which is in the central region of the Amritsar and Lahore belt, which is in light yellow color. It is here that Sikh Gurus started their reforms and Sikhism was born.

Maharaja Ranjit Singh, popularly known as Sher-e-Punjab or Lion Of Punjab was the first Maharaja of the Sikh Empire, which ruled the Northwest Indian subcontinent in the early half of 19th century.

Maharaja Ranjit Singh

Maharaja Ranjit Singh established his capital in this area and reigned from Apr 12 1801 to June 27, 1838. Hence the popularity of this Majha dialect is dominant.

About 100 million Pakistanis are of the Punjabi ethnic group.  Northern Pakistan is basically western Punjab and the majority and bigger area that was separated from India at the time of Partition in 1947.

++++++++++++++++
Some more food for thoughts:

7,000 Ukrainian troops invaded a sovereign Iraq in 2003 for no reason. They aided to hang a democratically elected president. The Ukrainians served as the third-largest Coalition forces contingent during Iraqi occupation.

Hundreds of thousands were killed because of the Ukrainian occupation of Iraq. Thousand of women were raped. But guess none felt the same pain because the victims were from different faith and race.

Overearning and Overeating are Similar

The researchers call this behavior “mindless accumulation”—the tendency for people to forgo leisure to work towards rewards they’ll never be able to use. They argue that it’s a distinctly modern problem. For much of human history, earning rates were low and people needed to work as much as possible just to survive. The idea that you could “overearn” simply wasn’t realistic. If you’re one of today’s highly paid office workers, however, earning comes comparatively easily, yet the drive to hoard as much as possible remains. The researchers compare over-earning to overeating, another distinctly modern problem caused by a life of surprising abundance.

My Singing in High School

I was the person whom teacher ‘Dharam Class’ always asked to recite Ramayan Dohas in my 7th class in S D High school, Panipat in the year 1951.

I remember a Doha even today:

เคจीเคคि เคตเคšเคจ เค•े เคฅे เค…เคงिเค•ाเคฐी ।

Snow in Sherwood

Apple Founder Steve Jobs Death-bed words

“I have come to the pinnacle of success in business.
In the eyes of others, my life has been the symbol of success.
However, apart from work, I have little joy. Finally, my wealth is simply a fact to which I am accustomed.
At this time, lying on the hospital bed and remembering all my life, I realize that all the accolades and riches of which I was once so proud,
have become insignificant with my imminent death.
In the dark, when I look at green lights, of the equipment for artificial respiration and feel the buzz of their mechanical sounds, I can feel the breath of my approaching death looming over me.
Only now do I understand that once you accumulate enough money for the rest of your life, you have to pursue objectives that are not related to wealth.
It should be something more important:
For example, stories of love, art, dreams of my childhood.
No, stop pursuing wealth, it can only make a person into a twisted being, just like me.
God has made us one way, we can feel the love in the heart of each of us, and not illusions built by fame or money, like I made in my life, I cannot take them with me.
I can only take with me the memories that were strengthened by love.
This is the true wealth that will follow you; will accompany you, he will give strength and light to go ahead.
Love can travel thousands of miles and so life has no limits. Move to where you want to go. Strive to reach the goals you want to achieve. Everything is in your heart and in your hands.
What is the world's most expensive bed? The hospital bed.
You, if you have money, you can hire someone to drive your car, but you cannot hire someone to take your illness that is killing you.
Material things lost can be found. But one thing you can never find when you lose: life.
Whatever stage of life where we are right now, at the end we will have to face the day when the curtain falls.
Please treasure your family love, love for your spouse, love for your friends...
Treat everyone well and stay friendly with your neighbours.”

When we prayed for Bobi and Gagan was blessed

On his many postings, finally Dr Didar Singh Chaudhry was posted around Badbar. So Didar and Bobi rented and shared a house in Barnala with a nice business family who owned that accommodation. They had a separate two room set with a small temp kitchenette.

Bobi and Didar as newly weds. Mickey seen in the background of pic is the cartoon character on whose name Gagan was given a pet name. He is still known as Mickey in the family.

It was good for Bobi to meet Papa Ji/ Bhabhi Ji quiet often including cousins. It was barely 10 miles from Badbar. Frequenting Delhi home town was difficult and costly. This option to be near to our farms land was a welcome event. So when ever I reached Badbar, it was a privilege to accept a warm hospitality from Bobi and Didar Ji.
One fine day I got frustrated with my day to day Governmental job and wanted to do some business and be a master of my own. My agricultural land was a big source of investment for such a venture. During my such visits to Barnala, Didar ji suggested many Agrobased businesses including Poultry farms. The department of poultry farm and fishery fell under his jurisdiction of Animal husbandry. He took me to many owners of Poultry farms in the area and did some intensive reco including due & diligence of such a business. Dr Didar was influential and we were able to extract right type of information for me to take decision. During my stay for 4-5 days I was entertained really well.
Whenever I went to Badbar to see Papa Ji, now I also visited Barnala. As I usually knocked at her door, Bobi came laughing & smiling to open the door for me and Papa Ji.
One day as we reached Bobi house, suddenly I felt aghast pondering in my mind that even after 7-8 years of marriage of Bobi and Didar Ji, there was no issue. It really shook me off that day. I started praying daily Ardaas to Waheguru ji to bless my sibling with an offshoot who will be part of support system culturally designed by our society. I prayed for the day when she, opens the door on my knock, carrying a toddler in her lap.

Didar ji was usually away to his work in near by villages while she was all alone and remained locked in her two room flat. Baba ji was too kind to bestow his blessings on us.

Waheguru Ji was kind enough to listen to our prayers and we had a heartiest news one good day that Bobi was on her family way. Since it was to be a rare and precious delivery, no body in the family would take a chance of any sort. In view of this we decided to execute the delivery in  Delhi, besides the medical facilities, in Barnala being a small town, were scarce and minimal.

Bobi carrying  ‘Rodda’ Gagan in her lap. My dream had come true.

I had a known accomplice Dr Sahunja a renowned urologist himself in the Greater Kailash, whose wife was an expert and Switzerland experienced gynecologist and had helped Tipi for successful delivery of Harry a few months back. Being tested and trusted but a costly private affair, it was finalized to refer to Dr Mrs Sahunja for Bobi too.

So a very butter-like-white and beautiful son was blessed by Almighty on April 5, 1986 to Bobi and Dr Didar. He was too white and was instantly called ‘Makhan’.  His name Makhan name is very popular among his engineering class mates. He was absolutely bald and remained so for many months and Barnala people started calling him ‘Rodda’. All the kids of the neighborhood were playing and carrying him and calling him ‘Rodda’. Initially I laughed at the name but suggested Bobi not to encourage this name. Of course Dr Didar will never accept it.

Gagan and Akanksha- newly weds

Makhan has grown up a handsome gentleman called Gagan who is married to his sweet-heart Akanksha. He is a brave man to have struck to his ground and decided to get married to out of caste sweet girl from a Garhwal family. In my view Akanksha is proving to be one of the best daughters-in-law in the family. She has melted into a pot of a different religion meticulously by supporting long hair like a typical Sikh girl and walking on the footsteps of Chaudhry family.

On  a visit to Sherwood, San Ramon, Ca

Family visits Harimandir Sahib for thanking Almighty for His innumerable blessings before making a Public announcement of a new member.

Bobi and Dr Didar Chaudhry growing gracefully

As I write this note I have an out of this world news to break. Akanksha and Gagan are going to be proud parents soon. Waheguru Ji has once again listened to the prayers of all in the family and has blessed this fantastic news.

Note of caution for Akanksha, to-be-born Baby could be another ’Rodda’ and you will have to have patience and bear with it for a few months before the toddler grows hair on top.

The story will be incomplete until I add the following contribution of family members.

Making of a Mickey:

Instead of inserting in the comments section, I am reproducing in the body of the blog below:

Why Walk is Necessary?

Why walk is necessary ?         Good Information

Ever wondered what happens to your body when you start walking?

Having walk in University of California, Davis

Here's a minute-by   -minute rundown of the amazing chain reaction walking and exercise has upon your body, it's truly amazing!

Minutes 1 to 5

Your first few steps trigger the release of energy-producing chemicals in your cells to fuel your walk. Your heart rate revs-up from about 70 to 100 beats per minute (bpm), boosting blood-flow and warming muscles.

Any stiffness subsides as joints release lubricating fluid to help you move more easily. As you get moving, your body burns 5 calories per minute, compared with only 1 per minute at rest. Your body needs more fuel and starts pulling from its carbohydrates and fat stores.

Minutes 6 to 10

Heartbeat increases and you're burning up to 6 calories a minute as you pick up the pace. A slight rise in blood pressure is countered by the release of chemicals that expand blood vessels, bringing more blood and oxygen to working muscles.

Minutes 11 to 20

Your body temperature keeps rising, and you start to perspire as blood vessels near the skin expand to release heat. As your walk becomes brisker, you'll be burning up to 7 calories a minute and breathing harder. Hormones such as epinephrine and glucagon rise to release fuel to the muscles.

Minutes 21 to 45

Feeling invigorated, you start to relax as your body releases tension, thanks in part to a dose of feel-good chemicals such as endorphins in your brain. As more fat is burned, insulin (which helps store fat) drops--excellent news for anyone battling excess weight or diabetes.

Minutes 46 to 60

Your muscles may feel fatigued as carbohydrates stores are reduced. As you cool down, your heart rate decreases and your breathing slows. You'll be burning fewer calories but more than you were before you started. Your calorie burn will remain elevated for up to 1 hour.

All this happens without a single conscious thought from us - the human body is amazing.
Stay blessed -Stayfit

Arc The Triomphe Flight and Victory and My Dad Connection

Charles Godefroy (29 December 1888 at La Flรจche (Sarthe) – 11 December 1958 at Soisy-sous-Montmorency, (Val d'Oise), north of Paris) was a French aviator who became famous for flying through the Arc de Triomphe in Paris in 1919.

Arc de Triomphe flightEdit

Godefroy passing through the Arc de Triomphe.

BackgroundEdit

France planned a victory parade on the Champs ร‰lysรฉes on 14 July 1919 to mark the end of hostilities in World War I. The military command ordered airmen to participate "on foot", like the infantry. This was a provocation to the pilots, who regarded themselves as "heroes of the air". At a meeting at Le Fouquet's, a bar on the Champs ร‰lysรฉes, a group of aviators decided to address this affront by selecting one of them to fly through the Arc de Triomphe during the parade. The choice fell on Jean Navarre, a flying ace with 12 air victories. But Navarre died in a practice flight on 10 July.

Godefroy, who had 500 flying hours at the time, volunteered to make the flight in Navarre's stead. With journalist Jacques Mortane, his close companion, Godefroy inspected the Arc de Triomphe several times to examine the air route and the air currents. He practiced at the bridge over the Small Rhรดne at Miramas.

FlightEdit

On 7 August 1919, three weeks after the victory parade, under cover of secrecy and dressed in his warrant officer uniform, Godefroy took off at 7:20 a.m. from the airfield of Villacoublay in a Nieuport 27 sesquiplane and soon reached the Porte Maillot. Coming from the west, he circled the Arc de Triomphe twice and began his approach along the Avenue de la Grande-Armรฉe. He gathered speed and forced the plane down and through the Arc. He did not have much clearance – the width of the Arc is 14.50 m (47.6 ft), not much more than his aircraft's wingspan of 8.21 m (26.9 ft). He passed at a low level over a tram in which passengers threw themselves to the ground, and many passers-by ran away frightened. Godefroy then flew over the Place de la Concorde and returned to the airfield, where his mechanic checked over the engine. No one at the airfield had taken any notice of the flight, which had lasted half an hour.

Mortane had the whole event filmed and photographed. The film screening was banned by the Commissioner of Police.[1] Godefroy stayed officially in the background, but his name could not be kept secret for long. The authorities disapproved of the event and were afraid of it being imitated, but Godefroy escaped with only a warning.

Articles have since been published in many newspapers.

And My Dad is born:

Soon Almighty blessed my Grandfather Lala Bhagwan Dass and Grandmother Karam Devi a a handsome and healthy son in Aug 1919 in Aghapura, Multan. My maternal Grandfather Lala Kanwar Bhan happened to serve in the World War I in Europe. They were very close friends too with each other. Once my maternal grandmother Kesar Bai told me in mid 1960s about how L Bhagwan Das while going for an early morning walk used to pass by her house. He was shocked to see her front yard being washed so early morning while his own womenfolk were still sleeping deep in their beds. He would carry on his walk and pass on gently after paying his respects. He however communicated his observation to his friend L Kanwar Bhan when he returned from war and appreciated hardworking qualities of my maternal grandmother.

Geet Valentine Day Card 2022

Geet continues to spread Happiness with Love on every Valentine Day.

This year again she picked a beautiful graphic and printed many copies after reloading the required paper in our printer. She intends to give as Valentine Cards for her School friends.
Geet put instruction on the back side of the card and placed it on my side of night lamp stand.

Similar card with instructions were placed on her Gama night stand table

She also came to wish me in the morning when I was in the bath room. She very very gently gave a knock at the door. I knew it was Geet only. After wishing me SSAkal, she also wished me a’Happy Valentine Day’

I am now directed to spread love. First and foremost in the list of spreading love is towards our Littlest, Sweetest and Bestest in the World - Geet.

Love you so much Geet for teaching me a pre-eminent,   actionable and costs-me-nothing lesson in this world!
