Harvinder College Mate Madhurima Nyati

Thanks to Facebook that Harvinder got in touch with Madhurima and since then they have been exchanging notes as to how the life turned out for each of them in last four decades. Madhurima, just retired as English Professor in Bhilwara, is visiting her younger son Kandarp in San Jose as Nyati family is looking forward to a baby boy at the dot of new year.  Some pictures at the time Baby Shower in their place.

I remember to have met first Madhurima in Jan/Feb1973 when she had come to Delhi and was staying in Chandni Chowk with a cousin. We had two-three meetings including one in our house in Jangpura Extension.

I also remember to have gone to see off Madhurima at the Delhi Railway Station. While sitting in the train car near the window, she invited us for ensuing Holi in Ajmer. Invitation for Holi playing was a strange to me as besides being a Punjabi, I hated playing colors in the fear they would disfigure my face, clothes and turban. But Harvinder told me later that it is very common Rajasthani tradition to invite close friends and family for playing Holi together. Her friendly nature impressed me.

Now even after 44 years, Madhurima continues to respectfully address me as 'Jija Ji' and it does humble me in a world where you call each other by first name only.

Happy Thanksgiving 2017

We had a truncated family dinner on this Thanksgiving, as some of the family members are visiting New Delhi for a wedding. Gurpal and Baggi Veer joined us was a big consolation. But we did have a pleasant surprise when one of the friends in her college times, Madhurima Nyati from Ajmer joined us for the dinner along with her younger  smart son Kandarp and his lovely wife Priyanka.

Most of the cooking was done by Shilpy with help coming from other family members. The decorations were adeptly carried out by Jania. Our new dog Simba was not far behind as he put all fall leaves together in a corner back yard.

Shiv delighted us with couple of songs which were as usually melodiously performed impromptus. One recorded by Harvinder is posted below.

Just Like my Mom

I offered Sewa for doing Sehaj path in Hayward Gurdwara Sahib. They are celebrating Sri Guri Nanak Dev ji's birthday while doing the grand opening of a brand new Diwan Hall for the Gurdwara Sahib.

My sister responds to my posting this picture on Family Group

This is in response to a question.

You are right, Bhagwant! May be my sitting posture resembled hers

Sometimes I feel the same way and I recite very same way she used to do in her perfectly melodious voice, Shiv is professional singer though. Believe it I am not far behind but for short periods after which I loose it as I do not do ‘Riaas’ like him.

Shiv also wants to record me when I do Japji Sahib as unknowingly I invariably do it in various different ragas without any knowledge of Music.

At times I feel Biji herself is singing instead of me.

Dancing In The Rains

It is rainy season in Winter here. unlike in India it has a four months of rains in summer season. But to Geet, the fun is the same. She would be very keen to hold an umbrella and stand in the drizzling rain. It hardly pours here. Only once in blue moon the rains are accompanied by thunder storms. But comparing to rains in India, the rains hardly soak you.
