Gobind meets his soul mate

This Thanksgiving, our home is filled with gratitude and warmth as we celebrate the spirit of family and friendship. On the eve of Thanksgiving, we welcome Gobind and his “brother,” Shashvat Iyer, into our home. Tradition carries on in a beautiful, evolving way.

Shashvat, a Tamil Brahmin by origin, doesn’t speak Tamil, and Gobind, our own, speaks only Sat Sri Akal in Punjabi. Yet, these two young men have forged a bond that transcends language and culture. Both are pursuing double majors in Pure Mathematics and Computer Science, and their shared journey has transformed friendship into brotherhood.

When I snapped a picture of the two of them, Gobind hugged Shashvat and said, “He is not my friend; he is my brother.” Such words reflect the true essence of Thanksgiving — unity, love, and gratitude.

Tonight, as tradition meets innovation, we are improvising the classic Thanksgiving dinner with a Tofu Turkey. It’s a reminder that family isn’t just those we are born to, but those we choose along the way.

To Gobind and Shashvat, may your bond continue to inspire all of us to celebrate diversity, togetherness, and the enduring power of friendship.

Happy Thanksgiving!

With love,

A Proud Grandfather
