My Mom Savitri Devi and her Hobbies

1926 - Jan 13, 1985

My mother Savitri Devi was a prominent member of Ladies Shabad Kirtan on weekly afternoon every Thursday in the Khail Bazar Singh Sabha Gurdwara, Panipat. She was the one who played 'Dholki' and lead the congregation by singing Shabad Kirtan. She was a born leader. She had learned music from her Dad L Kanwar Bhan who should perform Kirtan in Mohalla Aghapura Gurdwara in Multan. Some of her compositions has been revived by Shivpreet who is proud to refer to them as they are inspired from her. One of the them is reproduced below:

The same group and many others will also go to weekly Movie at the Naval Talkies and later at Kamal Cinema Hall. My mom will also take Bhagwant along with on days when her school was closed. There was hardly any Tuesday when she did not go for Tuesday Movie. There was a joke prevailing that the management will refuse to run the movies if my Mom did not attend. My Dad was hardly interested in movies but later in life he was a regular on TV movies.
