Tara statue
Tara is a female deity in both Hinduism and Buddhism who personifies compassion and offers salvation from the suffering of rebirth and death. She is thought to have been born of empathy for the suffering world and is regularly invoked for protection, guidance, and deliverance from difficult situations.
Tara - the female Deity is the supreme savior and goddess of mercy in Vajrayana Buddhism, best understood as a female counterpart to a Bodhisattva. She stands gracefully, extending her open hand is a gesture of granting boons (varada mudra) to devotees
Tara is undoubtedly the most powerful female deity in the Buddhist pantheon. Her name means “star” in Sanskrit and she is believed to possess the ability to guide followers, like a star, on their spiritual path.
Tārā is a meditation deity revered by practitioners of the Tibetan branch of Vajrayana Buddhism to develop certain inner qualities and to understand outer, inner and secret teachings such as karuṇā (compassion), mettā (loving-kindness), and shunyata (emptiness).
This Statue of Tara a Buddhist Goddess Deity was purchased from a Government Emporium on Janpath New Delhi in 2002 by paying a hefty sum of Rs 80000 after hectic negotiations. It seems to be made of alloy of Bronze and Brass. As it was about 30”+ tall, we had to adjust it diagonally when transporting to USA. We later put an ornamental necklace around the Statue borrowed from Bhangra dresses of our kids. It really fits well.
The salesman had mentioned about the name of Deity Goddess as Tara. The time passed and we forgot about it.
Today this STAR Deity Statue of Buddhist Goddess Tara is glittering after a thorough cleaning with the paste of lemon juice and Baking Soda.
As a curiosity I requested my near and dear friends over the ‘WA’ to to use their experience and knowledge to decipher the name of the Goddess Statue. My dear and near responded exceedingly well. I, hence, decided to record it in my blog so that we may not forget it again.
