Lohri 2024 in Sherwood

Lohri is a vibrant Punjabi festival celebrated to mark the winter solstice. It involves bonfires, traditional songs, and the joyous spirit of community.

Our dog Bhaloo joins the festivities.

It was a delightful celebration in Sherwood! Gathering popcorns, peanuts, and rewaries and decorating on a big tray was superbly done by ever smart Jania. As we tossed popcorns, peanuts and rewaires one by one into the bonfire, the experience added a unique and festive touch.

Dancing around the fire while singing "Sunder Munderiye" created a joyful and lively atmosphere. It's a wonderful way to celebrate Lohri with family. We could not collect neighbors and friends as it was continuously raining.

Absolutely, Lohri is often celebrated as the end of winter, symbolically bidding farewell to the cold season by lighting a bonfire and welcoming the advent of Spring.

The act of burning the fire is seen as a way to welcome longer days and the warmth of spring. It's a cultural tradition that carries both symbolic and celebratory significance.
