Bhai Nand Lal Childhood - Chap 2

Bhai Nand Lal was born in 1633 in Ghazni, in present-day Afghanistan, into a family with scholarly and aristocratic roots. His father, Chhajju Mal, was a famous scholar and managed local administrative duties, which provided Nand Lal with access to a rich educational environment from a young age.

Nand Lal received extensive education in Persian and Arabic, which were the languages of scholarship and administration in the region at the time. His upbringing in a culturally vibrant environment contributed to his deep understanding of literature, philosophy, and the arts.

After the early death of his father, Nand Lal took on family responsibilities but continued to nurture his literary and scholarly interests.

Details about his childhood are fragmentary, but his early education laid the foundation for his later works in poetry and philosophy, expressing devotion and spiritual insight, particularly reflecting the teachings of Sikhism as he embraced them under Guru Gobind Singh’s tutelage.
