The Valley quail is officially State bird of California. These birds have a curving crest or plume, made of six feathers, that droops forward: black in males and brown in females; the flanks are brown with white streaks. Males have a dark brown cap and a black face with a brown back, a grey-blue chest and a light brown belly. Females and immature birds are mainly grey-brown with a light-colored belly.
It was exciting for the whole family when strange visitors, the California Quails both Male and Female with crown on their heads came and strolled in our backyard. They were being followed by Ten few-days-old babies.
It was a great site to see the whole family, the male was walking on a higher level, the female walked at a lower level and both watching the kids on the ground level.
Now Jania tells me that there was a quail family who had hatched the eggs only recently in our next door house.
Thanks Jania for the information where the visitors came from.
