Raag Tukhari on Bansuri by Pt Rajendra Prasanna 2020

Laaga Rang Muraara - I have invited Pt. Rajendra Prasanna, one of the best bansuri and shehnai players from India, to play Raag Tukhari on the bansuri in a live musical remembrance of Guru Arjan Dev on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 (7:30 PM IST/7:00AM PST). You will be able to watch this live on my facebook artist page as well as my youtube channel (link in my profile).

I will make an introduction including some Gurbani in Raag Tukhari, a rare Raag composed by Guru Nanak. We will then have a bansuri recital.  This is one of the rare times one of the leading artists from India is playing this raag.  So I encourage you all to take some time out to listen and enjoy the bansuri performance.

The musical remembrance is to celebrate the life and teachings of Guru Arjan Dev. Around this time in 1606 Guru Arjan Dev was arrested under the orders of the Mughal Emperor Jahangir. According to Jahangir's autobiography Tuzk-e-Jahangiri (Jahangirnama), too many people were becoming persuaded by Guru Arjan's teachings and it was necessary to either kill Guru Arjan or convert him. Guru Arjan remained unshaken as he was tortured for 5 days before .

Pt. Rajendra Prasanna is one of the foremost bansuri and shehnai players from India.  He comes from a traditional family of musicians of renowned Benaras Gharana. He has played in some of the most influential music festivals of the world and has received the prestigious Grammy Award Certificate in 2004 and the Sangeet Natak Academy award from the President of India for 2017.
