Jania Is Our ‘Sita’

The legend goes as below:

“When Sita the daughter of Raja Janak reaches adulthood, he found her rearranging the household items in their Palace. In fact Raja Janak saw her daughter Sita lifting comfortingly the heavy bow Pinaka of the God Shiva with her left hand. He felt aghast by the youthful strength of her daughter as even the strongest of warriors were not able to move the bow Pinaka easily.

So, Raja Janak decided to organize a Swayamvara in Janakpur with the condition that Sita would marry only that person who would be able to string Pinaka, the bow of the god Shiva. Raja Janak knew that the bow of Shiva was not even liftable, let alone string-able for ordinary mortals, and for selfish people it was not even approachable. Thus, Raja Janak tried to find the best husband for Sita.

At this time, Vishvamitra had brought Rama and his brother Lakshman to the forest for the protection of sacrifice. Hearing about this swayamvar, Vishvamitra asked Ram to participate in it and took both brothers Ram and Lakshman to the palace of Raja Janak in Janakpur. Raja Janak was greatly pleased to learn that Ram and Lakshman are sons of Great King Dasharath of Ayuodhya.

Next morning, in the middle of the hall, Ram as expected lifted up the bow of Shiva with his left hand, fastened the string tightly and finally broke the bow.

So today I see my grand daughter Jania, a mere 11 years of age, lifting 100 inches Project Screen single handedly (just got delivered through Amazon). It just crosses into my mind what kind of clause or condition I have to insert in her Swayamvar if at all I have to pick a boy for her in this Kalyuga.

In a RamLila Scene enacted by the Windermere Community in the School Auditorium today, Incidentally included Swayamvar as shown above

As per the word ‘Swayamvar’, Sita has to pick herself her soulmate but on the conditions laid down by the Family. How politically correct our ancient regulations were and so much so are even applicable in the modern developed era.
