‘Sahib’ meaning

Today Simer asked me to elaborate the meaning of 'Sahib'

Sahib originally comes from Arabic meaning companion or Master. Sunny is right this is done for merely showing respect.

You will ever remember after reading below:

A hindu gentleman took a bus from Chandigarh. After a while he asked the conductor when they will Anandpur? A Nihang sitting next to him got up and gave him a swear slap on his face.

After some time he again asked the conductor when they will reach Chamkaur? Once again the Nihang gave him a slap on the other side. And shouted at him he had no respect for such places and must be addressed as Anandpur Sahib, Chamkaur Sahib and so on... Always followed by Sahib.

Now he was careful he asked the conductor with a sigh of relief when they will reach Ropar Sahib. To his surprise the Nihang once again thrashed him with a harsher slap and shouted at him. ‘why the hell he was adding Sahib to every minor place’.

Finally he got out of the bus.

Ha Ha

I think the meaning of Sahib must be clear. It is simply giving respect.
